A massive and controversial new oil production project in America’s Western Arctic is under review by the Biden administration. The public comment period ended March 9, 2022, and more than 200,000 comments from throughout Alaska and across the country were submitted to the administration opposing it.
ConocoPhillips' massive oil project in Alaska would be a climate disaster, locking in at least 30 years of fossil fuel production and adding the equivalent of 66 coal plants worth of carbon to the air. Willow would be a long-term problem, not a short-term fix and must be rejected. The Western Arctic is home to robust wild ecosystems and its lands, waters, and animals support a number of communities in the region. Any disruption that jeopardizes the ecosystem’s health puts all of its inhabitants at risk. The Biden administration has the power to stop this massive fossil fuel development. Add your voice to tell President Biden he must ACT NOW to protect America’s Western Arctic. Header image: Teshekpuk Caribou by Bob Wick (BLM) via Flickr (CC BY 2.0)
